Lexington, Kentucky

Kentucky is known as the Horse Capital of the World, although Ocala, Florida runs a close second. I live in Midway, in Woodford County in the heart of some of the most famous Thoroughbred farms in the world...like Lane's End and Three Chimney's where Smarty Jones stands in retirement. I'm only minutes away from the famed Kentucky Horse Park which has recently won the right to host the World Equestrian Games in 2010. I'm also only minutes from Keeneland where a recent sale toped $9 Million for one horse. Of course, the Kentucky Derby is held here in Louisville (pronounced Lew-a-ville) each spring. It's the biggest 2 week party you've ever seen!

Kentucky is also known for it's wine and bourbon. So if we were to do tours, we would have to include Equus Run Vineyard and Woodford Reserve for sure.

I used to work for Midway College. It started out as an orphanage for women and has evolved into the only women's college in Kentucky and one of just a handful of single sex colleges in the country. The school pioneered the School for Career Development which is a night program for working adults who want to complete a college degree. I acted as an academic advisor to these students for several years before my diagnosis.

There is so much to see and do in Kentucky. Besides what I've mentioned, there are wonderful state parks with beautiful lodges, lakes and streams for fishing, boating, camping. You name it. Lots of historical attractions. You can see outdoor theatre, visit Shaker Village and experience another lifestyle, go on a paddle boat up the river for a dinner cruise. The attractions are endless. So when you come, plan on staying a few days!
